Frequently Asked Questions

How Nap mode works

Nap mode in the Infinity Sleep Calculator tells you when to set your alarm for a nap. It adds 15 minutes to fall asleep to the nap length you choose: a 20-minute power nap or a 90-minute full sleep cycle.

Example: lie down at 2:00 PM for a power nap and set your alarm for 2:35 PM (15 minutes to fall asleep + 20 minutes of sleep). For a full cycle, set it for 3:45 PM.

How long should a nap be?

About 20 minutes. The National Sleep Foundation says a 20-minute nap is the best length. A longer nap of 60 to 90 minutes includes deep sleep but ends in lighter sleep, which is why Nap mode also offers a full 90-minute cycle (National Sleep Foundation).

What's the best time of day to nap?

Before 2 p.m., if you can. Most sleep researchers recommend napping before 2 p.m., so the nap has less impact on your nighttime sleep (National Sleep Foundation).

What is a coffee nap?

A coffee nap means having a small amount of caffeine right before a short nap. Caffeine takes time to take effect, so it may help you avoid the groggy feeling of sleep inertia when you wake up (National Sleep Foundation). Skip it if caffeine already affects your sleep.
